Moms, this is pretty awesome. If you’ve never heard of Fit4Mom, then you need to click on the links below and get acquainted. All moms struggle with trying to squeeze in a fitness routine while their kids are young. I mean young as in a few weeks and months old when you can’t leave them at the care center at the gym. It’s always challenging to keep motivated while working out alone too. This is where Fit4Mom comes to the rescue.
Recently, I visited a class in session to witness just how perfectly it works. Upon my arrival at a local park, the class was finishing up one station of activities. I’m pretty sure thighs were burning. Then the moms grabbed their strollers, many of them with double strollers and two kids in tow, and jogged up hill to the parking lot for another round of instructed exercise. All of the strollers were parked in a circle with the baby’s facing inward. There were little ones from 3 months to 3 years old enjoying the sunshine and upbeat music. The instructor went around the circle and read aloud a kids storybook containing numbers. Each number equaled the number of exercise reps the moms would be doing just outside the circle behind their own stroller. These ladies got in a tremendous workout for their upper and lower body. Soon it was off to the next station where the baseball field bleachers served as the perfect place for moms to step up and down with the beat of music. They sang along, danced a little, and clearly enjoyed each others’ company. When a little one required attention, the instructors stepped in with bubbles and even picking up a little one that was tired of their stroller. Nothing stopped these moms from getting their workout in on this day. Some were more advanced while others were beginners building their strength. When baby needed a little snack, mom stepped over to tend to the little one and popped right back over to join the routine. It was awesome. Fifteen moms with strollers accomplished their workout goal for the day, with their kids, and with their new friends. I wish I’d had something this fun to go to a few times a week when my boys were tiny tots.
Afterwards, I talked with two instructors, Amber and Brittany. They told me how they’ve seen great friendships form within the group. New moms can often feel alone and isolated when their life changes from daily work routines and social opportunities to being at home caring for a baby all day. They love to see these new friendships form and find the class helpful in filling the need for mom-friends in participant’s lives. What a great way to meet other moms and work towards fitness goals together!
