The Top 2 Reasons to Choose A Newborn Photography Studio

What difference does a studio make when it comes to photographing tiny little people? A lot! It’s a questions I get asked often…Do you have an actual Newborn Photography Studio or just a room in your home? When they’ve had a negative experience in the past, they want to make sure they don’t end up like that again. Since 2008, I’ve been photographing one week old newborns. I’ve done this in my clients home, at my home, in a crowded little studio room, and in a larger dedicated professional studio space. Even earlier this year I debated going back to the on-location newborn session. I’ll be honest. I HATED it. I booked a few sessions in a short period of time to do on location at the client’s home and it only took ONE of those to snap me back into reality and realize that was not the best plan for me. After doing it all of the ways, here’s The Top 2 Reasons to Choose A Newborn Photography Studio:

1- Space

I can work much more quickly and efficiently  in my 800 square foot studio than I can in your living room or a cramped back bedroom. Period. Working on location limited the amount of things I could bring to provide the best lighting, posing, and variety. In the studio I have access to ALL of my props and accessories. That’s $30,000+ in equipment, props, and accessories that I could never fit in my car and bring to your home. An artist is at their best when their creativity is not limited. Having a larger studio space allows me to provide a professional high quality experience where my client can relax and enjoy the show.

2- Speed

In my studio, where I can control the temperature and have my 5-6 sets all ready to go all at once, I can complete an entire newborn session with family and siblings in under 2 hours. Then, in studio, I transfer images from camera to computer and allow my client to view them on the same day in the same visit, to scale, and on a large 72″ screen. When they leave, everything is done and within 3 weeks their order arrives at their door. In the home setting, trying to provide the same variety and quality, it took me more than twice as long. Include the time it takes to carry 7+ loads of things into your home and set them up for use and then pack them all up again, and you can easily add another hour to the time. And with no way to show images to scale immediately after the session, I feel I’m not providing my client the best service. Nothing about that was efficient for me or for the family. No one should have to wait months to see their session images or receive their product.
