What is Professional Photography?
A Professional Photographer is more than just a person who owns a nice camera. There is more to being a professional in any industry than simply owning the right tools. Owning an oven doesn’t make you an award-winning chef, and owning a wrench doesn’t make you a skilled mechanic. We ask that you consider all of the following when choosing between an amateur photographer and a true professional photographer.
Choose a Certified Professional Photographer!
Many professions have a certification process to identify those with the qualifications to perform their job at a professional level. In the photography industry, we have a certification process as well. It’s not a requirement for photographers, but it is a designation you can use to find a highly skilled professional. Very few attempt to earn their certification because of the rigorous requirements involved. The Professional Photographic Certification Commission currently recognizes less than 2,000 Certified Professional Photographers (CPP). Being a professional photographer should mean more than just having a business name and a website. When one chooses a professional in any industry they should expect a higher quality experience and service from a trained, knowledgeable individual. Since anyone with a camera can claim they are a professional photographer, we wanted to set the bar higher for Vanessa G. Photography. Earning your CPP involves completing testing to measure your artistic and technical competence. Applicants must complete a two hour written examination and submit a recent portfolio of images, meeting very specific lighting and posing requirements, for evaluation by the commission. To become certified, you must prove that you can apply your knowledge of photography and create images that are certifiably professional in artistry and skill. While others may call themselves ‘professional photographers’, here at our studio, we have PROVED it.

2- The Experience.
Here you will find a more pleasant, less rushed, session experience than you will ever get from a chain store. You receive one to one attention during your 1-2 hours of session time with an experienced professional who has spent several years learning their craft. Followed up by a pampered appointment with our Portrait Consultant to make sure you get the most from your investment.
Posing high school seniors and adults requires a basic understanding of what is flattering on the human body. We’ve spent a little extra time learning how to pose curvy women too! Better posing equals a thinner, shapelier you. For our tiniest clients, newborns, we become baby whisperers and safety conscious guardians of your little angel.
4- Digital Editing.
Our focus is on magazine quality images. And those require a whole other skill set. Nothing you see on our website is fresh from the camera. We include blemish removal, color enhancements, skin perfecting, and many hours of our digital editing expertise with every session.
We have access to quality products. And have the ability to customize that album cover, storyboard, or birth announcement. Nothing is one size fits all. Our images are printed on the finest mediums with heirloom quality.
When in a customer service business, like photography, a custom experience also comes with excellent customer service. Think Nordstrom vs. WalMart, think Tiffany’s vs. your local pawn shop.
Expect a contract/model release form when working with a true professional photographer. You are hiring someone to do a professional job.
A professional is dependable. You know what you are getting from the first phone call or email. When photography is your full time job, like it is ours, you get expert attention.
When a professional photographer is doing a great job, people talk about it. Every client is important to the true professional. Word of mouth referrals are our biggest source of new clients.
Working with a true photographic artists means someone other than you will be bringing ideas to the table. Every session is unique. Think: Crayola verses Van Gogh. Our ideas are not always conventional. And that makes us stand out.
We use professional grade cameras, lenses, and lighting equipment allowing us the most flexibility in any lighting situation. We are prepared. We use an assistant when needed during sessions.
12- Quality Images.
Our custom photography produces images that are well lit, well composed, and expertly enhanced.
